Question
Does uninstalling or deleting an app cancel the subscription?
Short answer
No. Uninstalling or deleting an app does not cancel its subscription on Android or iPhone. The plan is held by Google Play or Apple, not by the app, so it keeps renewing until you cancel it in the store's subscription list. Removing the app only takes away your way of using what you pay for.

Why does the charge keep coming after the app is gone?
Because the app never held the billing in the first place. When you subscribe inside an Android app, the agreement is recorded in your Google account through Google Play; on an iPhone it sits in your Apple Account. The app only asks the store, each time it opens, whether you are still entitled to the paid features.
Deleting the app removes that question, not the agreement. Google Play Help spells this out on its cancellation page, and Apple's guidance is the same: an active plan renews on schedule whether the app is installed, archived or long forgotten.
This is the single most common billing complaint about cleaner apps. In 40,376 public reviews analysed in October 2026, being unable to cancel or being charged after uninstalling made up 30.3% of billing complaints, ahead of trial charges and weekly pricing.
How do I check what is still renewing?
| Phone | Where the list lives |
|---|---|
| Android | Play Store > profile picture > Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions |
| iPhone or iPad | Settings > your name > Subscriptions |
| Any browser | play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions, or the Apple Account page |
Each entry shows the next billing date and price. Anything marked Active or showing a renewal date will be charged again; an entry that says Cancelled or Expires on a date will not. If the app you uninstalled is not listed, check whether you used a second Google account or Apple ID, because each one has its own list.
Paused or on-hold plans are listed too. A plan in a payment grace period still counts as active and will be charged once the card works again.
What should I do if I already deleted it?
- Open the subscription list above; the plan appears there even with the app gone.
- Tap it and choose Cancel subscription, then confirm.
- Keep the confirmation email that Google or Apple sends.
- If you were billed after you meant to stop, ask for a refund straight away, since timing matters on Google Play.
Reinstalling is not needed to cancel. It can be useful afterwards to use the time you have already paid for. The cancel guide has per-app notes, and the refund question covers getting money back.
Frequently asked questions
Does offloading or archiving an app cancel it?
No. Offloading on iPhone and archiving on Android keep your data and the subscription. Only cancelling in the store stops renewals.
Will a factory reset stop the subscription?
No. The plan belongs to your account, so it follows you to a reset or new phone.
Can the developer cancel it for me?
Usually not for store billing. Developers can't see your payment, so they point you to Google Play or Apple.
