How to free up space on the ASUS Zenfone 8
Short answer
To free up space on the Zenfone 8, open Settings > Storage to see what is using it, clear duplicates with Mobile Manager, then empty Google Photos's Trash. A default 16 MP photo is about 4.8 MB, so 5,000 photos take roughly 24 GB of the 128 GB base model.

How much space do Zenfone 8 photos take?
Zenfone 8: 64 MP main sensor, 16 MP by default, plus 12 MP ultrawide. 1,000 default Zenfone 8 shots take about 4.8 GB.
| File | Typical size | Fits in 10 GB |
|---|---|---|
| Default photo (16 MP) | about 4.8 MB | about 2,083 |
| Full-resolution mode (64 MP) | about 15.4 MB | about 649 |
| RAW / DNG (16 MP) | about 30 MB | about 333 |
| One minute of video at 8K 24fps | about 600 MB | about 17 minutes |
Switching the Zenfone 8 to its 64 MP mode makes each shot about 15.4 MB, roughly 3 times a default photo, so 200 of them use 3.1 GB. RAW files from the Zenfone 8 run to about 30 MB each, which is why RAW folders fill a phone faster than anything except video. Recording at 8K 24fps, the Zenfone 8 writes about 600 MB a minute, so a ten-minute clip takes 6.0 GB, the same as 1,250 default photos. Selfies from the 12 MP front camera are about 3.6 MB each.

|---|---|---|
| 128 GB | 24 GB (19%) | 18 GB (14%) |
| 256 GB | 24 GB (9%) | 18 GB (7%) |
On the 128 GB Zenfone 8, every 10 GB you free holds about 2,083 more default photos, and a gallery of 20,000 photos would fill 75% of it. On the 256 GB Zenfone 8, every 10 GB you free holds about 2,083 more default photos, and a gallery of 20,000 photos would fill 38% of it.
