What is Clean out in Samsung Gallery? One UI 7 duplicate cleanup
Short answer
Clean out is a section of the Samsung Gallery menu on One UI 7 and later. It took over cleanup tools from the older Suggestions menu, mainly Delete duplicate pictures, which groups identical copies so you can remove the extras. It is free, built into Galaxy phones, and sends deleted photos to the Gallery's Recycle bin first.

Where do you find it?
- Open Samsung Gallery and tap the menu icon, three lines at the bottom right.
- Look for Clean out; on One UI 6 and earlier the same tools sat under Suggestions.
- Tap Delete duplicate pictures to see groups of matching images.
- Review each group, keep one copy and delete the rest.
Samsung's support page on One UI 7 confirms the Suggestions function moved, and that the exact layout depends on software version and region. If you do not see the option, update Gallery from the Galaxy Store or Settings, Software update.
What does it match, and what does it miss?
Delete duplicate pictures looks for images that are the same, such as a photo saved twice from a chat or copied between folders. It does not treat a burst of slightly different frames as duplicates, and it does not rank which of several similar shots is better. Blurry pictures and screenshots are left for you to find by browsing albums.
Samsung's My Files app has a second route: Analyze storage, then Duplicate files. It scans files of every type, not only pictures. Samsung's own guidance warns that originals can be selected along with copies, so check that one of each remains before confirming.
| Tool | Finds | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Gallery Clean out | Duplicate pictures | Gallery menu |
| My Files Analyze storage | Duplicate files of any type | My Files app |
| Recycle bin | Recently deleted items | Gallery menu |
Either tool is a good first pass. On phones that save many chat images, the duplicate list can be long, and clearing it often frees a few hundred megabytes in minutes.
How does the Recycle bin work?
Photos deleted in Gallery go to the Recycle bin and stay for 30 days before Samsung removes them for good. They still use storage during that time, so emptying the bin is the last step if you need room now. If Samsung Cloud or OneDrive sync is on, deletions may also reach those copies.
For a wider plan on Galaxy phones, see free up space on Samsung. GalleryJury, an Android cleaner coming soon to Google Play, adds what Clean out lacks: it picks the best shot from bursts and flags near-identical copies, junk screenshots and forwards. The duplicate photos guide covers the free steps first.
Restoring is simple: open the Recycle bin from the Gallery menu, select the items and tap Restore. They return to their original albums with dates intact, which is easier than recovering from a cloud copy later.
