Feature
Best-shot picker: keep the one good photo from every burst
Short answer
GalleryJury's best-shot picker groups photos taken seconds apart of the same scene, scores each one for sharpness, exposure, framing and how clearly it captures the moment, and keeps the winner. The other shots in the group are suggested for removal. You can swap the pick before anything is deleted, and deleted photos go to Android's trash first.

What counts as a similar photo?
A similar photo is one that is not a byte-for-byte copy but shows the same moment: five tries at a group selfie, a burst of a child blowing out candles, or three almost-identical sunset shots. Exact-duplicate finders miss these because every file is technically different.
GalleryJury groups photos by visual content and by when they were taken, so a burst from a birthday party becomes one group, and a photo of the same cake taken a week later stays separate.
How does the AI decide which photo is best?
Each photo in a group is scored by an AI judge model on the things people look for when they pick by hand:
- Sharpness: motion blur and missed focus lose points.
- Exposure: too dark, washed out or blown-out skies count against a shot.
- Framing: cut-off subjects and tilted horizons count against a shot.
- Clearest moment: the shot that shows the scene most cleanly wins ties.
The judge compares the scene: the same place, background and number of people.
- Same moment only: shots are grouped only if they show the same place, background and arrangement of subjects, taken seconds apart.
The highest-scoring photo is marked Keep. You see the whole group side by side and can tap any other photo to make it the keeper instead.
How much space do similar photos take up?
A typical 12-megapixel phone photo is about 2 to 5 MB. A 10-shot burst of one moment can therefore use 20 to 50 MB, of which you usually want one photo. Across a few years of family events, trips and pet photos, those extra shots add up.
Can I review the groups before deleting?
Yes. Nothing is removed without your go-ahead. You can review group by group, or accept all suggestions with one tap on Free X GB. Deleted photos go to Android's trash first, so a wrong pick is not instantly permanent.
Frequently asked questions
Will it group photos of different people who look similar?
Grouping uses both visual similarity and capture time, so two different people photographed in the same spot hours apart are not merged. If someone joins the shot, the number of people changes and the photos are not treated as the same moment. You can review every group before anything is removed.
Is this the same as Google Photos' stacks?
No. Google Photos can stack similar photos together for viewing, but it does not delete the extra shots for you. Read the comparison.
