How-to guide

How to find and delete blurry photos on Android

Short answer

Open Files by Google > Clean and use the Delete suggested pictures card, which lists blurry, dark and low-resolution photos once it finds at least five. For backed-up photos, Google Photos' Manage storage has a Blurry photos category. Neither catches pocket shots or compares a blurry shot with a better one of the same moment, which an AI cleaner can.

How to delete blurry photos with free tools

  1. Open Files by Google. Tap Clean. Look for the Delete suggested pictures card. It appears once there are at least five blurry, dark or low-resolution photos.
  2. Review the suggestions. Tap Select files. Uncheck any you want to keep.
  3. Move to Trash. Tap Move to Trash and confirm.
  4. Check your cloud library. In Google Photos, open Manage storage and tap Blurry photos. Swipe right to delete, left to keep, then Review > Delete.

What counts as a blurry photo?

Motion blur (the camera or subject moved), missed focus (the background is sharp, the subject isn't) and camera shake in low light. A portrait with a soft background is not blurry if the subject is sharp, and a good cleaner shouldn't flag it.

What about pocket shots and blurry bursts?

Free tools judge the whole image's sharpness and brightness. A pocket shot of grey fabric may pass. An AI judge looks at the content, so it can flag the pocket shot and, in a burst, keep the sharpest shot. In GalleryJury, the separate Blurry and Poor shots categories are off by default. See the blurry photo remover.

Frequently asked questions

Can I fix a blurry photo instead of deleting it?

Slight blur can be improved with tools such as Google Photos' Unblur (on supported devices). Heavy motion blur generally can't be recovered.

Why doesn't the Delete suggested pictures card appear?

It only appears when Files by Google finds at least five suggested pictures, and it may not be available on every device or region.
