Free up space on a Nothing phone
- Check what is using space. Open Settings > Storage on the Nothing phone.
- Clear duplicates and junk. Use Free up space (one-tap clean) (Settings > Storage > Free up space > Clean) or Files by Google's Clean tab to remove duplicate files and memes.
- Remove backed-up copies. In Google Photos, tap your profile picture, then Free up space, if your photos are backed up.
- Empty the trash. Open Gallery > Albums > Recently Deleted and empty it; space returns only then.
Where is storage on a Nothing phone?
- Nothing OS 1 and later: Settings > Storage
Nothing phones run Nothing OS. The storage screen lists apps, images, videos and system files; images and videos are usually the part you can safely shrink.
Where do deleted photos go on Nothing phones?
Nothing Gallery keeps deleted items in Recently Deleted for 30 days: Gallery > Albums > Recently Deleted. Nothing's support pages for Phone (3a), (3a) Pro, (3a) Lite, (4a), (4a) Pro and (4b) say Gallery keeps deleted photos and videos in Recently Deleted for 30 days. On Phone (1), (2) and (2a), Nothing points to Google Photos' Bin instead (Photos > Library/Collections > Bin), which Google says holds items for 30 days.
Which built-in cleaners do Nothing phones have?
- Free up space (one-tap clean) (Nothing OS 1 (Phone (1))): Settings > Storage > Free up space > Clean. Nothing says this detects and removes hidden temporary files, cookies and cache files.
- Clean by category (Nothing OS 1 (Phone (1))): Settings > Storage > Free up space > Clean > Internal. Lets you pick and delete files from internal storage by category.
- Google Photos: Free up space on this device (Google Photos app): Google Photos > profile picture > Free up space on this device. Deletes the on-phone copies of photos and videos already backed up to your Google Account.
- Files by Google cleaning suggestions (Files by Google app): Files by Google > Clean. Suggests junk files, duplicates, large files and old media to delete.
- Files by Google: preinstalled — Nothing's Settings > Storage > Free up space > Clean flow is the Files by Google cleaner..
- Google Photos: Google Photos is preinstalled on every Nothing phone and is the photo app on Phone (1), (2) and (2a). From the Phone (3a) series on, Nothing also ships its own Gallery app with a separate 30-day Recently Deleted album, so a photo deleted in one app may still sit in the other app's trash.
What is different about Nothing storage?
- Nothing has two photo trash bins: Nothing Gallery's Recently Deleted (30 days) on newer models, and Google Photos' Bin.
- Nothing's older Phone (1)/(2)/(2a) help pages still say Google Photos' Bin keeps items for 60 days. Google's current help page says 30 days.
- Only the Phone (3a) Lite has a microSD slot among the phones listed here. Every other Nothing phone has fixed storage.
- Settings > Storage > Free up space > Clean removes hidden temp files, cookies and cache in one tap before you start deleting photos.
How long do Nothing phones get updates?
