ID and document protection: the photos a cleaner must never delete

Short answer

Before suggesting anything for removal, GalleryJury looks for photos and screenshots of identity cards, passports, licenses, bank details, bills, prescriptions and other documents. These are protected and always kept, even if they look like junk screenshots.

Which documents are protected?

  • Identity documents: passport, driver's license, national ID card, residence permit, US state ID, Social Security card.
  • Financial: bank statements, checks, card fronts and backs, and payment receipts with a reference number.
  • Medical: prescriptions, lab reports, insurance cards.
  • Legal and official: certificates, rental agreements, tax forms, warranty cards.

Why does a cleaner need this?

Document photos often look like the junk a cleaner is built to remove: a slightly blurry screenshot, a photo of paper on a table, an image saved from WhatsApp. A generic blur or screenshot rule would flag them. A cleaner that can't recognise them is not safe to use with one tap.

Can I protect other photos too?

Yes. Albums you made yourself are protected automatically, and you can protect or unprotect any album in Settings > Protected albums. Photos you mark as favourites in Android, and photos from the last 48 hours, are always kept. Photos in protected albums are never uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

Are my document photos uploaded?

Documents are recognised by the AI check, so a shrunk copy is analysed like any other photo unless it is in a protected album. The shrunk copy (512–1024px) is deleted from our servers right after analysis.

Does the app store or share my ID numbers?

No. The app does not extract, store or share document numbers. It only labels the photo as a document so it stays out of the clean list.
