How an AI judge picks the best photo from a burst

Short answer

An AI judge first groups photos of the same moment, then scores each on sharpness of the main subject, exposure, framing and how clearly it shows the moment. The highest score is kept. It can be wrong on taste, so you can swap the pick before anything is removed.

How are photos grouped?

By visual similarity and capture time together. Visual similarity alone would merge two different days at the same beach; time alone would merge a selfie with the menu photographed a second later.

What does the judge score?

  1. Subject sharpness, not whole-frame sharpness.
  2. Exposure: not too dark, not washed out.
  3. Framing: nothing important cut off, level horizon.
  4. The clearest moment: the shot that shows the scene most cleanly.

Where can it go wrong?

Taste. A candid, slightly soft shot may be your favourite. That's why the pick is a suggestion, every group is reviewable, and deleted photos go to Android's trash first.
